Houston Kazakh Community Celebrates Grand Opening of Furniture Store
Three Houston-based Kazakhs take entrepreneurship to the next level with the grand opening of their new 18,000-square-foot furniture retail store.

The City of Houston celebrated the grand opening of Bunk Bed World, under its new ownership on June 1 at its showroom in North Houston.
Bunk Bed World boasts an impressive 18,000-square-foot retail facility and warehouse that include sofas, sectionals, dinette sets and of course bunkbeds.

First opened nearly 30 years ago, Bunk Bed World changed hands earlier this year when Houston locals Quatbek Makhum, Aziz Izkakov and Sabyrzahn Darmentayev purchased the store. The three new proprietors have each served the Texas Kazakh community for years and shared their business trajectory from a garage startup to retail store.
Makhum, Izkakov and Darmentayev welcomed City of Houston At-Large Council Member Julian Ramirez, and American Turkic Business Council Vice-President Daniar Musa and President and CEO Orhan Osman in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Ramirez, in a speech shortly thereafter said the event reminded him of his own upbringing in Fort Bend County as a second-generation US citizen of parents who opened their own shop. He remarked that the debut of Bunk Bed World reflected “another chapter in the American dream. This is what it’s all about.”
Afterwards, Osman who has led ATBC, a Houston-based group of American and Turkic companies since 2005, addressed attendees of the event. He pointed toward the store’s future in Houston. “We are excited to support their journey and witness the positive impact they will have on our community,” Osman said.
As part of its grand opening celebration, Bunk Bed World is offering a 20 percent discount on all recliners and bunkbeds till August 31. Inquire about its delivery and assembly services as well.
